15 Jun Phillip & Sarah Pritchard Prayer Letter May – June 2018
My dearest friend recently encouraged me with this statement; “Faith is a higher faculty than reason. Reason is only the triumph of the intellect, but Faith the triumph of God’s divine Spirit in me.”
As he spoke I was reminded of II Timothy 4:7 “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”
We have not endured to the point the Apostle Paul did, but endure we must. I confess, often I have been discouraged to abandon faith and strive in reason, but God’s Spirit leaves me convict that my triumph, my victory, my way forward depends wholly upon Faith.
Pray with us, pray that the faith in our hearts and in the hearts of our people, here in Cape Verde, would continue to grow and burn with zeal; that we would have faith that can move mountains and undo the enemy’s strongholds.
Often, we are detail oriented, both the writer and the reader, in the prayer letters we write and read. However, I want to point out the overwhelming burden of my heart. The greatest detail and the greatest enemy we are facing is spiritual darkness. You face it, we face it, everyone faces it, this enemy wants us to implore other tactics to fight what only the Spirit can overcome. He wants us to be otherwise engaged and occupied. Paul said “…watch thou in all things…” Pray with us that we keep our “eyes” vigilant.
We Baptized two brethren in Pedra Badejo. Fernando and Neni followed the Lord in Believers baptism. We praise the Lord for these steps of obedience.
We are pastoring and co-pastoring three congregations on the island we live on and two other congregations on two separate islands North of our location. (Assisting Missionary Areobaldo Decarvalho while he is on furlough) Each congregation is God’s church, and God’s people each with their own opportunities and obstacles. I want to list these churches and the men who are leading them. Please pray for them.
- First Baptist Church of Pedra Badejo – Pastor Julio Nanque
- First Baptist Church of Assomada – Pastor Charles Texeira
- New Church plant in Praia – Edson Silva and Clovis Ribeiro
- Independent Baptist Temple of Mindelo
- Missionary Areobaldo Decarvalho and Carlos Silva
- Independent Baptist Temple of Porto Novo – Jesuino Sousa
Pray for these churches and these men. Pray for the missionaries, the national pastors, the Seminary students, the disciples, and the new converts that God enables us to be better builders and better fighters in His army. The Kingdom is being built, I believe the best is yet to come here in Cape Verde. My faith stirs me to such thoughts.
We have a couple in the church in Pedra Badejo that are preparing for marriage. This is exciting and good news. For both the bride and groom to be, neither one of them have any immediate family that is married. The biblical picture and exhortations are foreign elements to them and their respective families. Pray that God enables them with boldness and great faith to obey and demonstrate the great picture of grace; the bride of Christ.
In continuance, over the past weeks we have seen a few conversions here in Praia and Pedra Badejo. We are discipling and working with these individuals to bring them in greater fellowship with the body of Christ.
Pray for our Seminary students we are currently in a class session and ongoing ministry training. Pray that all four students grow in their love for Christ, His Word, and His Church.
Pray for some financial needs that we have. We still need $12,900.00 to finish paying for our Church/Seminary/MMM transportation van. It is serving us greatly in all areas of ministry.
Thank you for your continual exercise of faith for the cause of Christ in the ministry here in Cape Verde.
For His Glory,
Phillip and Sarah Pritchard
