27 Jun MMM- For He that will Love Life….
1 Peter 3:8-12
“Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:
“Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing. For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:
“Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.
For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.”
Be of one mind
Love as brethren
Speak no guile
Wow! What a great list of goals for the Preach Team.
Listen how Peter gives the secrets to this list of spiritual challenges.
First, there is really only one real reason why we disobey the commands of Jesus: it’s because we don’t have confidence that obeying will bring more blessing than disobeying. We often don’t fear the alternative consequences. We do not hope fully in the promises of God. I guess we really don’t take Gods word literally.
So, what did he promise? Peter the Apostle says it’s not in murmurs and gossips, speaking evil things against people, trying to get in the last word, or even the defamatory drama we hear all the time these days. But rather, we should speak blessings, speak to edification, speak with hope because that’s what we are called to do and in doing it we will also inherit the same. Blessings. Hope. Proverbs 15 says, “A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth.” Our mouth affects our joy and our blessings.
Peter also added if a person wants to love and enjoy their life and see good days, versus a lot of bad, hard, and wasted days…it will mandate that we learn to keep our tongues in check. And that those lips we wear everywhere, speak no guile. Notice the tongue and the lips are both mentioned here. What great partners in crime they often can be.
What is guile?
insidious cunning in attaining a goal; crafty or artful deception; duplicity.
Artful deception. You will always be better off to obey than to disobey, even if it costs you life. Never forget God gives life…and can give more…abundantly more!
In Mark 10:29-30 Jesus answers this same Apostle Peter who had been given this promise as a young man, and later answers as an elder and an aged Apostle, to the grace and blessings of Life.
“And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s, But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.”
The only way to have the power to follow Christ in this costly way is our love to be filled with hope, with a strong confidence that, if we lose our life (houses, lands, jobs, family or children) doing his will, we will find it all again(now in this time) and be richly rewarded(a hundredfold).
This is how we inherit the Blessings of God. The is how we enjoy life and experience many good days….
This is what we are called to.
This is our calling. Bless!
Bless God! Bless the Nations! Speak incessantly of the blessing and goodness of our God! Do Good! Seek peace and ensue it!
Bless you all,
Dr Paul Pritchard Jr
And let’s not forget the eternal reward after this life.
