14 Aug Kidd Bits…an update from the Kidd Family – June 2018
Dear Fellow Co-Laborers in Christ,
“Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice,” I Samuel 15:22b I came across this verse while reading this morning. I was as guilty as Saul for quite some time. I served in our church, I gave tithes and offerings, I gave to missions…all sacrificially. But, I wasn’t obeying what God really wanted me to do. I wonder how many others are sacrificially giving of their time and finances instead of obeying God in the task He has given to them, whatever that may be. Partial obedience is disobedience.
This past month has been full of blessings for our family! I have had several opportunities to preach and Jenny has been able to become more involved in a ladies Bible study. We are learning the language enough to be able to partially communicate with people and to invite them to church. We have even had some come up to us and ask for a Bible.
On May 27 while we were in Praia helping with the church plant there, our home was robbed. Most of our electronics were taken. The next day, Bro Phillip Pritchard, Pastor Julio and I went to the police station and they were surprisingly helpful. Praise God, on Thursday of that week we went back and left with all of our belongings!! The best part though, is through it all we were able to be a great testimony to the police. When we returned on Thursday, the commander commented on how calm and polite we were in comparison to others that they are used to dealing with. In this culture, that testimony will go a long way with the nationals.
Another blessing we received is God’s provision through His people. We were in need of funds to purchase our tickets and other travel expenses to return to the US. Praise the LORD, our tickets are purchased!! A former pastor of mine often referred to his wife as the Holy Spirit’s helper. Well, I certainly have one of those as well. As the funds came in from various sources, I was continually amazed. She asked me why; we had prayed often about it, God’s plan for us is to get back to the US for deputation, and He would provide for us. Well, that was the slap in the face I needed. 🙂 Reminded me of when Jesus said, “Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?” I am continually getting reminders to have more faith.
The longer we are here, the more we understand and appreciate the TEAM approach to missions. Arguably the greatest missionary of all time, the Apostle Paul used the team approach with his missionary endeavors. While we are definitely still newbies, the benefits are quite clear to us. We have been working with the Phillip Pritchard family and without their help and encouragement, we would not have made near the progress that we have. We also have been able to help them in areas where they needed. Yes, a missionary can do it on their own (with God’s help), but the ministry potential is much greater when there is someone to help fill in the gaps.
So, our return date is July 6th. We will fly to Boston and then drive to PA on the 7th. Our desire and prayer is to return running. We will be on a sprint to raise our support so that we can return to Cape Verde as quickly as possible. We have some meetings scheduled, the first being July 8th, but are looking to fill our calendar. If you or your church would like to hear of what God is doing in Cape Verde and do not already have us scheduled, we would love the opportunity to share with you.
We would ask that you please pray for us in a few areas: 1-that we would be able to finish the things here in Cape Verde that we need to before we leave. 2-better language acquisition. 3-safety as we travel. 4-wisdom as we meet with people and churches to raise our support.
