16 Apr Kidd Bits…an update from the Kidd Family – April 2018
Dear Fellow Co-Laborers in Christ,
Greetings from Cape Verde! April 16th marks the 2 month point since we arrived in Cape Verde. And what an incredible 2 months it has been!
Upon our arrival on Friday, February 16th, we unloaded our luggage and rested for an hour or so. Then, Brother Phillip Pritchard and I went back to the airport. He had invited me to go with him to the islands of Sao Vicente and Santo Antao to check on a couple works there. When we returned, our family got settled into the seminary building where we have been/will be living during our time here. The standard sicknesses passed through our family as our bodies adjusted to a different set of germs. Please pray for us as we are still dealing with some of that.
The weekend of Feb 23/24, we were privileged to attend a 2-day marriage conference. What a blessing to meet the various couples who desire to honor God in their marriage. The culture here does not place much importance at all on marriage, so a marriage conference is a relatively new concept for the Cape Verdeans. There are some photos posted on our “Reaching Cape Verde” page (address listed below).
We began our language classes 3 days a week with a man who is a member of the church in Assomada. Afranio Monteiro teaches Portuguese in the public schools, but is currently on medical leave. He had a heart attack and needs a stint put in, but that procedure is not available here. Due to the socialized medical system, he is on a waiting list to go to Portugal to have this procedure done. Please pray for Afranio that he will be able to have this taken care of quickly. He also has desires to enroll in the seminary and complete that program. He truly would be a great addition to the national leadership team here.
There have been several opportunities to go with a national into the local Pedra Badejo community evangelizing, visiting both past church attenders encouraging them to come back and inviting new folks to come while presenting them with the Gospel. Between this and our regular visits to the market and various shops, we are beginning to develop some relationships within the community. We are quickly becoming known as “the white family with all the kids.” 🙂
The new church plant in Praia is going well. One lady was saved a few weeks ago and there are others who seem close to making a decision for Christ. Please pray for a long-term meeting place. We are currently meeting on a patio and are quickly outgrowing that area. A great problem to have, but a problem nonetheless.
The new ministry van has already proven to be a great blessing in transporting people to and from services. There is still $14,500-15,000 (depending on current exchange rate) owed on it. If God would lay it on your heart to help the ministry with this expense, it would be greatly appreciated.
We will soon begin scheduling meetings for raising our support. We have a couple Mission Conferences and other meetings already scheduled and are looking to fill our calendar. We currently have about 21% of our needed support and desire to raise the rest as quickly as possible so we can return to Cape Verde ASAP. For those already supporting us, THANK YOU!! For all others, if God would have you or your church to add us to your mission’s program, we would be honored to represent you in “the uttermost part of the earth. Acts 1:8”
